Child Care

So, I have been looking into some other centers that have dealt or are dealing with Keystone Stars and I have learned that location is a prime factor in their ratings and how they evaluate certain centers. Funding for that area is also  something that I have found to be a factor as well. I also found that little things like washing hands and washing tables and the basic steps to cleanliness in the classrooms are not a big issue with some Keystone Star Representatives, when they come out to visit the childcare centers.

If your interested in what Keystone Stars is all about here is some information that you may find interesting.

Keystone STARS

Keystone STARS - Improving the quality through:
  • Standards
  • Training/Professional Development
  • Assistance,
  • Resources and
  • Support
Keystone STARS is an initiative of the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) to improve, support, and recognize the continuous quality improvement efforts of early learning programs in Pennsylvania.
The Keystone STARS Performance Standards provide the foundation for the program.  The Performance Standards are grouped into four levels:
STAR 1, STAR 2, STAR 3, and STAR 4.
Each level builds on the previous level and utilizes research-based best practices to promote quality early learning environments and positive child outcomes. The standards address staff qualifications and professional development, the early learning program, partnerships with family and community, and leadership and management.
Keystone STARS is managed through a partnership of the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) and the Pennsylvania and Regional Keys.

2011-2012 STARS performance standards

family child care homes

On an ongoing basis, the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL), along with its stakeholders, reviews the Keystone STARS Performance Standards for Centers, Group Homes and Family Child Care Homes.  This is in an effort to recognize the progress made by the field, to align the standards with new or revised program initiatives and to encourage more movement towards continuous quality improvement.
The revisions to the 2011-12 STARS Performance Standards for Family Child Care Homes will be in effect beginning July 1, 2011. For a detailed discussion regarding the changes to the Performance Standards, you are encouraged to contact your Regional Key.

Child Care

am learning that there is still in differences in the Child Care Centers and how Keystone Star rates or evaluates the different centers. It confuse me a bit, because here I work in an Urban area, and visited another center that was in a qoute, unqoute nicer or better area. And I found that nice is not always better. I saw somethings that I know that if I did them at my own center, we definitally would have been sited. So I am doing some looking into how centers are rated in different areas.

I need your help, if you could put your input as to what the city and/or Keystone rates your cener I would really appreciate it. Thank you:)
